Y'all, I'm culling the LJ f-list. Please don't take offense if you were cut! More than likely it's that I don't get a lot of connection with you on here and I mostly see you at live social stuff. Since I've migrated to announcing my get-togethers primarily through email and Evite and am now mostly using my journal for more personal reflections, I'm doing what makes sense for that. Thanks!

10:45 pm - Movie series

The chamber of commerce does a few concerts and outdoor movies free during the summer in McCorkle Place (that big grassy and tree-y area across from the post office on Franklin St., near the planetarium). This Wednesday at 7:30 they are showing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and I'm thinking of going. Anyone interested? I'm guessing a blanket or lawn chair would be appropriate, and takeout from McAlister's...

You scored as Artistic. Congratulations, you scored Artistic. You're looking for the unique movie in the bunch. You've probably watched a lot of movies that nobody has ever heard of, and good for you. You also know good filmmaking when you see it. You just get it, no questions asked. Check out: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Amelie, Garden State, Lost in Translation.

I think that Zipcars are just nifty as all get-out. I saw it mentioned on UNC's website today, and then I saw a Beetle with Zipcar written on the back of it, so I says to myself, twice in one day? What is this new fad? And I say to you, it's nifty. At first I was confused as to how it was not just a car rental thing. But what's so clever and techno-gadgety about them is that they're just these cars parked in scattered locations around a city, and in order to get into them you have to have the electronic keycard that unlocks the door and ignition. You pay $20/year to be a member, reserve a time slot you want the car online, when your time arrives the car will allow your keycard to unlock it, and the keys and a gas card are in it. It sounds like the company people rarely ever physically go to the cars, and in fact if you smoke or leave them dirty and they have to go to them, they charge you fees. I thought it was incredibly cute that the cars all have names and are described as "living" at a certain place; the four in Chapel Hill are all Beetles: Basie, Bacall, Beryl and Basil. I also think it's interesting that the four areas where one can find Zipcars are NYC/NJ metro, Boston, DC... and Chapel Hill.

I love this town.

Hah! Ahahahaha! Jean Renoir was a film director, 1894-1979. Pierre-Auguste Renoir was the painter, his father, 1841-1919. Both of the bastards were French, like I said. Clouet is also French, as are Manet and Monet (can't remember which was one of the options). But so is Raoul Dufy. The moral of this story: he wasn't asking which one was a French painter, he was asking which one was a French painter, which Jean was not. All that pontificating about Belgians was for nought, and if I'd thought for a few more minutes about the fact that I knew for damn sure that Renoir the painter's first name wasn't Jean, I might have gotten it what he was driving at.

Tricksy bastard.

Ew, ew, ew. Why must online news be filled with huge pictures of the Pope's corpse? Really, shouldn't they drape something over him so people's last glimpse isn't of his pasty, sunken, lifeless flesh? I really don't know why they have to photograph each and every moment of the parading of his body all over Rome for a frigging week. This is so morbid and gross.

Okay, I feel a little better. Since about 8pm EST last night, there have been at least 15 lj support requests about incorrect time stamps, before that I found none. Ergo, this is an unresolved lj issue. Hopefully the support staff will notice the sudden influx and will stop just referring people to the FAQ. I know they do that because people aren't supplying enough info about what they've tried so far, so I was very explicit in my description.

Hmm, I wish there was a way to find out what cluster other users are on, to see if all the folks having the problem are on the same one. But I don't see a way to find anyone's location but my own...

Edit, 6pm: I am such the doof. The request board lists the requester's journal location along with other pertinent info right on the request. Just didn't notice it. Silly me!

Grr. The time is showing up wrong on my posts and I'm having to adjust them manually. They are automatically setting to three hours earlier, i.e. Pacific time. The lj faq says this is most likely due to my computer being set wrong, but I've checked it, resynched it, tried a different browser, checked that Javascript is still enabled after my last Firefox update, rebooted... I am hoping this is some strange issue with the lj servers right now and doesn't persist, because it's annoying as hell. It is not 10:49 Friday night! Any suggestions, or if you've had this happen to you, please let me know.

You scored as atheism. You are... an atheist, though you probably already knew this. Also, you probably have several people praying daily for your soul.

Instead of simply being "nonreligious," atheists strongly believe in the lack of existence of a higher being, or God.

Today my friend Ginny would have been 58, and I'd love to be able to send her a cheery email wishing her a happy day. She always told me I should write and I didn't realize what a compliment that was from a writer until it was too late to thank her.

Love you and miss you, Ginny.

Snerf. Amazon has no fewer than 17 listings for the LOTR trilogy in its various versions, editions, and sets. I am not fooled by any of you! Even though "The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Special Extended DVD Edition)" appears to be the perfect set, I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. I know, I just know that they will sooner or later release all three "Platinum Series Special Extended Edition Collector's Gift Set" versions in the ultimate box set contained all possible special features and packaged in a beautiful embossed case worthy of display, and I will wait years if that's what it takes. The damn thing will probably cost $200 or more but I will not be swayed! That baby's gonna be under the Christmas tree for me one year, make no mistake.
